Unpredictable events can and do happen while travelling. So, what do you do when a significant tech outage or system failure disrupts your travel plans? You turn to your insurance policy to find out if you are protected under the following coverages:
Travel Delay: A benefit designed to reimburse expenses related to covered delays that meet the required number of hours, such as meals, transportation, and accommodations if an overnight stay is required.
Missed Connection: A benefit designed to provide travellers with coverage if a delayed flight causes you to miss a connection.
All-inclusive Insurance: Coverage that encompasses many benefits from all different travel insurance plans, offering the best protection for the investment.
As a policyholder, you can also access emergency assistance services, which may help you rebook your flights or locate other services needed during a travel delay.
If you need to file a travel insurance claim, InsureMyTrip can help. Although we do not handle claims directly (our providers handle those), we can provide tips to expedite the claims process.
Know Your Plan
Carefully read your policy’s terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions to understand your coverage and the provider’s claims process.
Have Documents Ready
You must show proof of purchases made or money lost due to the delay; therefore, compile receipts and proof of expenses to be reimbursed accurately. Be sure to include:
- Receipts and itemized bills for ALL expenses
- Unused travel tickets and proof of payment for the tickets
- Proof from the airline that your baggage was lost or delayed
File Right Away
Due to the tech outage or system failure, claims may take additional time to process because of the volume. Therefore, file your claim as soon as possible. Some policies may even have cut-off dates.
File Online
When possible, submit a claim on the provider’s online portal. This can help speed things up and allow you to check the status of your claim. If it has been more than three months without a decision, InsureMyTrip representatives can help you by contacting your provider to determine the hold-up.
